Six of them are Americans; the other two come from Mexico and Spain. 8 people in the world own as many riches as half the population.
The joint fortune of the eight richest people in the world is 3.6 billion dollar, which is the equivalent to the poorest half of the world’s population. This was announced by British non-government organization Oxfam, as quoted by the BBC.
The report, which was published prior to the meeting of the World Economic Forum, which is to be opened on Tuesday in Davos, indicates that abyss between rich and poor has turned out to be much bigger than expected.
Six of the billionaires are American while the other two are from Mexico and Spain. On top is Bill Gates with USD 75 billion, followed by Spaniard Amancio Ortega – founder of the Zara brand– with USD 67 billion. The eight is completed by Warren Buffett, Carlos Slim, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison and Michael Bloomberg.
