Mercedes to Invest 10 Billion euro into the Development of Electromobiles

The German corporation Daimler sets aside 10 billion euro for the development of electro mobiles.

This was announced by Stuttgarter Zeitung, quoting the company’s Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars head Thomas Weber.

Mercedes-Benz’s electric cars will be sold under their brand name, which is expected to be EQ.

Expectations are that by 2020 the Mercedes-Benz electric cars family will comprise over 10 models. Towards the end of this period, electro mobiles will realize 15-25 % of the German company’s worldwide sales.

Along with the mentioned investment, Daimler intends to spend 1 billion euros for the production of new batteries for its electric cars.

The first car of the new product line is expected to be the serial version of the conceptual crossover Generation EQ, which was shown at the Paris Motor Show. The assembly of the electromobility is planned to start in 2019 in the Bremen factory.

The model’s main competitors will be Audi E-Tron Quattro, Jaguar E-pace and Tesla Model X.
The crossover’s design slightly reminds of GLC Coupe.

The car has 21-inch rims and a panoramic roof. The rear-view mirrors have been replaced with cameras, showing images on special monitors.

The car will have the capacity to cover 500 km autonomously. For now, no more technical details have been revealed. It is known that the power will be about 4000hp, which will ensure 0-100 kph acceleration in less than 5 seconds.
