TV anchor Oprah Winfrey sold a painting by Australian artist Gustav Klimt to a Chinese art collector for 150 million dollars.
Oprah demonstrated business acumen, selling the painting for almost double the money she had bought it for at a Christie’s auction in 2006.
The painting in question is 1912 “A portrait for Adele Bloch-Bauer”, which depicts a famous Vienna Maecenas’s wife.
The portrait was among the works of art which were confiscated by the Nazis from their lawful owner during World War II.
In 2006 the painting was returned to descendants of the Bloch-Bauer family.
In 2014 the TV host anonymously handed the canvas to The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
