Professor Stephen Hawking is one of the scientists who is often heard warning humanity against the threats of artificial intellect.
But now, the popular scientist is turning our attention to a considerably more serious problem, which hides no smaller risk for humanity – that is, obesity.
“Today, a large number of people die of complications caused by obesity and immobility.
We eat too much and exercise too little”, said Hawking in a campaign aiming to advertise Swedish non-profit organization GEN-PEP and its activities.
The strongest part of the scientist’s speech is probably this: “As a matter of fact, how a sedentary way of life became a major health problem, is beyond my understanding.”
The solution he offers is totally simple and logical – “People should eat less and spend more time being physically active.”
A sedentary way of life is the fourth-ranking death-rate factor globally at the moment.
His video ends with three key messages:
1. The lack of physical activity is the fourth most common cause of death globally at the moment.
2. The obligatory time for physical activity for an adult daily is 30 minutes.
3. For a child, the minimum time for physical activity daily is 60 minutes.
